Loved this! Curious what your thoughts are when it comes to founders starting Substacks? Obviously a bit different than a full brand presence, but there is an inherent, more subtle representation of the brand with more wiggle room for fun and acutal-humanness...

hmmmm I haven't decided what I think about it yet. It feels a little like the girlboss revival, and as someone who spent a good chunk of my early twenties idolizing female founders, personally, I am not really into it (but there is definitely an audience for it!!). Ultimately, I think it depends on the product and the founder - some of them are good writers and have personality and some don't. People can feel when you treat writing as a fun little project and when you are writing as part of your company's comms strategy or as a way to network. I like Melanie's Substack - she seems cool! I'd love creative directors of brands to talk more about their process, sources of inspo, etc. too

What do you think???

Completely agree, and same on the female founder admiration. Like most things, it's definitely more case-by-case. I definitely like Melanie's too, and I think the common thread with the successful iterations of these founder substacks is that they can stand alone without their brand. I guess you could call them founders with influencer potential? lol
