This was such an interesting read! Also love that you mentioned Gia Kuan because I would consider her as one of the "real girls" that I follow. I definitely find myself more engaged with the women whose main jobs aren't social media based, which I realised whilst reading this.
What a wonderful read 🫶🏻 Authenticity and fun always wins. I think Emily Wood’s videos are not only a combination of both, but really this unapologetic way of saying “makeup is supposed to be fun”. I’ve been using some of her techniques and trying to break the chain that my makeup needs to have a certain standard process to be considered “good”.
I have been observing this and unfortunately I believe being one of these real girls in the industry takes resources. If you don’t have capital (both actual capital and the social capital that comes with it) you are perversely forced to be a performer. It’s a tough system. Incentives need to be realigned.
Very interesting read! Loved your point about Miu Miu. I feel like they are trying to stay relevant and modern, but they are doing it SO wrong! Putting Kylie in their latest campaign feels desperate and not inclined with their brand ethos AT ALL 🙈 I recently wrote a piece on this campaign. Would love your input, if you're willing of course 😌
i loved this!
what a good read!
thank you!
Lots of good stuff here. Made me think of how we're seeing more innovation from makeup artists (violette fr, isamaya, pat mcgrath).
they stand on business!!

that's probably why she is so successful!

Beauty companies don't want you know Emily is using a hair gel stick on her eyebrows too!
